Silvia is a town and municipality in the Cauca Department which lies to the northeast of Popayan, high in the valleys. This is great place to get off-the-beaten tracks and to see parts of Colombia that many never see, nor imagine exists. It is known for its market on Tuesdays when Guambianos come to Silvia to sell fruits, vegetables and handicrafts. It is not a market for tourists but the colours and the traditional dresses of the Guambianos descent, make it a great sight to observe or take photos. They still maintain their traditional ways of life, speak their own languages and are excellent weavers. The market begins at dawn and goes on until mid-afternoon.
